Plunging and its obscure oneness of forms И в тусклое единство форм погружаясь,

He beheld the cosmic Being at his task, Космическое Существо он в своей задаче заметил,
His eyes measured the spaces, gauged the depths, Его глаза измеряли пространства, глубины оценивали,
His inner gaze the movements of the soul, Его внутренний взор - движения души,
He saw the eternal labour of the Gods, Он видел труд вечный Богов
And looked upon the life of beasts and men. И смотрел на жизнь людей и зверей.
A change now fell upon the singer's mood, Перемена сейчас ощутилась в певца настроении,
A rapture and a pathos moved his voice; Восторг и пафос его голос двигали;
He sang no more of Light that never wanes, Он не пел больше о никогда неубывающем Свете,
And oneness and pure everlasting bliss, О единстве и чистом вечном блаженстве,
He sang no more the deathless heart of Love, О бессмертном сердце Любви он больше не пел,
His chant was a hymn of Ignorance and Fate. Его песнь была гимном Судьбы и Неведения.
He sang the name of Vishnu and the birth Он пел имя Вишну и о рождении,
And joy and passion of the mystic world, О страсти и радости мира мистического,
And how the stars were made and life began О том, как были сделаны звезды и как жизнь началась,
And the mute regions stirred with the throb of a Soul. И безмолвные регионы шевелились с пульсом Души.
He sang the Inconscient and its secret self, Он пел о Несознании и его самости тайной,
Its power omnipotent knowing not what it does, Чья всемогущая сила не ведает, что она делает,
All-shaping without will or thought or sense, Все формируя без мысли, без воли, без чувства,
Its blind unerring occult mystery, Чья не ошибается слепая мистерия оккультная,

And the Idea that through her dumbness works Об Идее, что сквозь ее молчание трудится,
And the miracle of her transforming hands, И о чуде ее трансформирующих рук,
Of life that slumbers in the stone and sun О жизни, что дремлет в камне и солнце,
And Mind subliminal in mindless life, О подсознательном Разуме в неразумной жизни,
And the Consciousness that wakes in beasts and men. О Сознании, что просыпается в животных и людях.
He sang of the glory and marvel still to be born, Он пел о славе и чуде, которым родится еще предстоит,
Of Godhead throwing off at last its veil, О Божестве, отбрасывающем наконец свой покров,
Of bodies made divine and life made bliss, О телах, божественными сделанными, и жизни, ставшей блаженством,
Immortal sweetness clasping immortal might, О бессмертной сладости, сжимающей бессмертную силу,
Heart sensing heart, thought looking straight at thought, О сердце, ощущающем сердце, о мысли, глядящей прямо на мысль,
And the delight when every barrier falls, О восторге, когда барьеры все рушатся,
And the transfiguration and the ecstasy. О трансфигурации и об экстазе.
And as he sang the demons wept with joy И когда он пел, демоны плакали в радости,
Foreseeing the end of their long dreadful task Предвидя конец своей долгой ужасной задачи
And the defeat for which they hoped in vain, И поражение, на которое они надеются тщетно,
And glad release from their self-chosen doom И радость освобождения от своего самоизбранного рока,
And return into the One from whom they came. И возвращение в Одного, из которого вышли.
